Dear Parents, Community Organizations, and California Tax Payers. The Sacramento Surplus Book Room is a non-profit organization that provides books and instructional materials to educators, parents, school, and young adults for a small nominal fee or free of charge. Our organization and others like it have continuously been at risk of extinction due to our elected officials not preventing large out of state textbook brokers from deleting California tax payer's pockets and educational resources. Textbook brokers such as Follett Educational Services, a Chicago based corporation, have been illegally purchasing books from California schools and reselling to schools throughout the country, including California at predatory prices. Thus, California schools an taxpayers are currently being abused an are paying twice for the same textbooks while students throughout the state are left without textbooks. Since the inception in 2003, our non-profit organization has taken a pivotal role to advocate legislators an the California Superintedent's office to prohibit out of state textbook broker's illegal activity; however, textbook brokers continue to use divisive political contributions and influential lobbyist to sway California legislators an the Superintedent of Schools, Jack O'Connell. In essence, our California legislature has turned a blind eye away while their political pockets continue to grow at the expense of our children's education. In February 2007, AB 1342 was introduced by Assemblyman Tony Mendoza and coincidence enough, sponsored by Follett Educational Services. AB 1342 essentially would have eliminated existing law and allow textbook brokers to legally purchase surplus, obsolete text books, and instructional material from schools on pennies on the dollar and provide no definate accountability on books being sold by schools. Our organization and its affiliates ure your strong support to prevent textbook brokers from pocketing California tax payer's money and depriving your children's educational future. Therefore, we ask that you call and or write to your legislator and the California Superintendent of Schools, Jack O'Connell and voice your opposition. ## FOLLOWING ARTICLES Follow The Money!
